Wall Hanging
After learning a little about dyes and how to achieve the effects I want to create I embarked upon a huge challenge. I wanted create, what seemed to me a mammoth task, a three metre long fabric hanging in preparation for an exhibition that was being planned outside of university. I drew a very rough sketch of the idea and then had to figure out how I could create this large scale on fabric.
I decided to try my hand at devore. To create devore A paste is used to dissolve the cellulose fibers in the fabric.
The fabric was dyed before and again after the devore to get a deeper colour in some places. Text was added using freehand machine embroidery.
I dont have an image of the whole hanging yet but here are some details of the work so far.
