The theory is taking over quite a lot at the moment so there hasn’t been much time for ‘playing’ with materials and processes.
While I was researching sustainability and questioning the boundaries of textiles for my first essay I came across a couple of artists, Suzanne Lee and Christine Ryan, who have experimented with growing Kombucha fabric. It is fascinating! But it wasn’t that that made me think so much as a statement by Christine Ryan’s article in a copy of Textile Fibre Forum, about her creative practice being very much process led. She speaks of how she engages with materials, exploring, investigating and learning about their properties and boundaries, taking risks and experimenting. All of this resinates with myself. I see a new process and I want to see what I can do with it. The MA theory is forcing me to see new ideas and artist that are inspirational and exciting.
